Rebecca Konyndyk DeYoung, PhD
Professor of Philosophy, Calvin College
Dr. DeYoung has taught philosophy at Calvin College for the past 12 years. Her research focuses on Aquinas's ethics and the seven capital vices; she also teaches ethics and the history of ancient and medieval philosophy. She has published articles and book chapters on various vices and virtues such as sloth, gluttony, courage, hope, and despair in journals including The Thomist, Medieval Philosophy and Theology, the American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly, and Faith and Philosophy. She attended an N.E.H. summer seminar on the seven deadly sins in Cambridge, U.K. in 2006 and led a summer seminar with Robert Kruschwitz (Baylor University) at Calvin College in 2010. She frequently gives presentations on the seven capital vices and spiritual formation, most recently at Biola University's Institute for Spiritual Formation and the American Church in Paris. With sabbatical funding from the Louisville Institute, she will be completing books on vainglory and sloth during her sabbatical leave in 2012-13. She and her husband Scot have four children.
